QlikWorld 2023: Creating an exhibit that stands out from the rest.
Vizlib, 2023
About Vizlib
Vizlib offers intuitive extensions for Qlik Sense (a leading business intelligence platform) to empower data-driven organisations to extend their analytics capabilities.
The brief
Qlik’s flagship event in spring 2023
Historically, ‘QlikWorld’ – an annual 4-day conference hosted in Las Vegas – provided Vizlib the opportunity to shout about its brand, showcase its product offering and capture a significant proportion of its sales leads.
I sat down with the CEO, CMO and Head of Brand and Content ahead of the event to create a creative action plan. We needed:
A fun exhibit design that captured the essence of that year’s theme, as well as Vizlib’s playful brand personality
A suite of printed marketing materials and merch to enhance the campaign
Achieve significant footfall and engagement with delegates
Process & research
‘Experience the thrill of certainty’
QlikWorld’s 2023 visual concept incorporated visuals of a fairground, playing off the theme ‘the thrill of uncertainty’.
Bold shapes and a flat illustrative style depicted theme park structures like rollercoasters and ferris wheels
Fortunately, this style and playful theming tied in nicely with Vizlib’s existing brand identity, providing a great springboard from which to develop an eye-catching stand design
What happens in Vegas…
The Vizlib team was really excited to go to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to attend this event.
Running with the idea of this iconic city and venue, I combined the shapes used across Vizlib’s product suite to develop concepts around abstract cityscapes and the Vegas skyline. I’ve included some examples in this section.
‘Making your move to Qlik Cloud easier’
Also reflected in the QlikWorld 2023 visual identity was its core objective, ‘making your move to Qlik Cloud easier’. I really loved the idea of including clouds as a nod to Qlik’s cloud services. This would dovetail well with the landscape concepts I’d already been experimenting with.
Solution & impact
A bold and colourful exhibit that pays homage to Qlik Cloud and upholds Vizlib’s playful brand personality
My final 3D mockup, shown below, builds on the concept of data in Qlik Cloud. The city skyline built from shapes and pie charts connect with the clouds above. Copy displayed on the stand is concise, keeping the visuals and Vizlib logo front and centre.
Feedback
The stand was well received by staff members and delegates who attended. Footfall was strong throughout the event and the accompanying branded merch was a hit.
Additional feedback from staff revealed that the stand was the ‘most colourful and eye-catching’ at the conference centre.
Expanding the campaign in print
Alongside the exhibit itself, I created the following to complete the campaign:
4x shirt designs for attending Vizlib staff
Flyers (shown below)
A competition poster (shown below)
Branded socks
Sticker sheets (shown below)
Other marketing collateral
Whilst each of these printed items served a different purpose, I echoed the shapes, colours and themes from the stand to bring uniformity and a continued sense of fun.
Getting social
I continued the same visual theming across our social media campaign to encourage Vizlib customers to visit the stand both before and during the event.
Taking this even further, we recorded live customer testimonials from the stand before turning them into reels, which performed well on LinkedIn.
“I had the pleasure of working with Lizzy as her manager at Vizlib. During that time, her impeccable work - which was always thorough, thoughtful, and on time – made her an indispensable part of our team, and business.
Lizzy is a versatile and multi-dimensional designer, but the one thing that really sets her apart is her ability to translate a brief into something engaging and effective. In addition to being a phenomenal designer, Lizzy is a wonderful teammate and colleague.”
